Buckner is an unincorporated community located in the central part of Oldham County. With a last reported population of an even 4,000 residents, Buckner covers an area of 7.5 square miles, approximately 0.2 of which is water. Though the area began as a farming community, today it has a diverse array of businesses along with its residential area of relative affluence. Only 1.7 percent of the population of Buckner lives below the poverty line.
The children that live in this pleasant community attend the Oldham County School System. Two of its schools – Oldham County Middle School and Oldham County High School – are physically located within the area of Buckner.

From manufacturing industries such as software and industrial products, to service industries such as veterinarians, pet grooming, and consulting, the companies come in all sizes. Wendell Moore Park, located in Buckner, covers 107 acres, and is open year round. It caters to a wide variety of interests, both active and passive recreation. There are picnic areas that include both grills and electricity, a children’s playground, volleyball and tennis courts, a miniature golf course, a basketball court, and softball fields.
Also within Wendell Moore Park, Reformatory Lake in Buckner is the area’s only significant and named body of water, and takes up the majority of the park space, at 65 acres. It can be a fishing spot for those who prefer blue or channel catfish. However, you must stand on land or wade; there are no boats allowed.
Oldham County Country Club contains an 18-hole, semi-private golf course of moderate difficulty. They have both individual and family memberships available. Their other main amenities are a swimming pool which is exclusive to members, tennis courts, and a clubhouse that is available for anyone to rent for an event. Inside the clubhouse, there are cooking areas, a dance floor, and a big screen television. Its golf course has previously won awards for being the best within the county.
In nearby LaGrange, a popular recreational area for tourists and locals alike is Falling Rock Park. This is a quarry that is filled exclusively by rainwater. It is open during the warmer months, and its activities include diving off the rocks, floating inside the quarry. Because this is an area for high diving, no swimming is allowed; you must have a floatation device if you are relaxing in the water.
